Tura, April 24: Several civil society organizations (CSOs) of Garo Hills staged a sit-in demonstration in the office premises of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Thursday to demand for a separate electoral roll, implementation of Garo Customary Law among other demands.
The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), A’chik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO), Federation of A’chik Freedom (FAF), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU), and Federation of Khasi Jantia and Garo People – Tura Government College Cell (FKJGP – TGC CELL) united for a two-day protest, calling for immediate action on several critical issues.
Besides calling for an urgent need to have a distinct electoral roll specifically for the GHADC elections, they sought for speeding up the implementing of the Garo Customary Law, implementation of well-defined service rules for the employees of the GHADC and establishing proper financial regulations within the GHADC.

The organizations also demanded the formation of a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to ensure transparency and accountability.
The sit-in demonstration drew significant attention with protestors holding placards to amplify their demands.
