SHILLONG, JULY 21:  Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said the department is closely monitoring the sudden increase in Covid-19 cases in the state.

“We are keeping a close watch on the situation,” Rymbui told reporters when asked about the measures to be taken by the department in this regard.

The state has recorded 102 new cases as of Wednesday taking the total active cases to 358.

Rymbui however said the government had already issued a notification directing the deputy commissioners to take decisions within their respective jurisdiction as and when the need arises.

He also ruled out the possibility of the government issuing a blanket order for closure of schools in the state.
