Dibrugarh, Sept 21: At a time when the entire region is suffering from unusual sweltering heat conditions, a heavy downpour reportedly triggered by a cloudburst in the wee hours of Friday, has resulted in flash floods in Menchuka in Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to local sources, flash floods had damaged several houses, homestays, and fish ponds in the Dorjelling area of the town, apart from causing extensive damage to an RCC bridge and a hanging bridge.
Houses from the Salman Point area to Shekhor village are the worst hit, locals said. It might be mentioned that Menchuka is globally famous for its immense tourism potential and is thronged by hundreds of tourists every year, particularly during the winters. The flash floods and its impact have now become a matter of worry for the tourism industry in Menchuka.
Liyi Bagra, the Deputy Commissioner of the district, said that the administration has sent teams of officials to carry out a detailed survey of the affected areas. Bagra said he has instructed the officials to send the damage estimation report as early as possible.
