Clubfoot surgery camp organised at Holy Cross Hospital, Tura

Tura, June 29: A club foot surgery camp was organised at Holy Cross Hospital on Thursday. The camp was organised by DEIC (RBSK) NHM Tura, Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Meghalaya in collaboration with CDSIMER Bangalore.

This is for the second time that such health camp is being organised at Holy Cross Hospital.

Earlier, the camp was organised on February 2023.

The health camp was setup after Government approached the hospital for treating such patient.

One of the doctors of the Holy Cross Hospital said that the treatment is not a one time process but this treatment is a long process.

Talking about the treatment, he said that treatment, medicine, travel and food of the patient is being taken care of by the hospital, later the expenses will be sent to the government.

The government will the pay the expenses back to the hospital.

He said that the Government approached the hospital looking at the conditions of several children who are not able to walk properly in Garo Hills.

The government made the proposal last year for treating such patients.

He said, this time the camp started on Monday and will end on Friday.

Talking about the last cases, he said fifteen patients were operated, but this time over 13 have been operated.

He also said that last time six doctors from Bangalore had come for treating the patients.

This time, six medical personnel arrived from Bangalore out of which four are ortho surgeons and two of them are anaesthesia doctors. The doctors are specialist in their field.

Five doctors who came from CDSIMER (Dr. Chandrama diyananda sagar Institute of medical education and research), Bangalore are Dr. Ramesh LJ (center), ‌Dr Keshav Murthy
‌Dr Anil Kumar, Dr Ajay Shandilya, Dr Ankitha Ks and Dr. Chuba Birimong Yimchunger, Orthopedic surgeon.

The DEIC find out children with heart, liver, lungs and other deformities from all the Meghalaya and send them to different parts of the country.

He also said that since now the facility is available in Garo Hills, so now it is easy for the patients.

The doctor further said that the hospital is well equipped making things easier for the patients.

The main motive behind this initiative is to help and treat the disable children.

Highlighting the severity of the issue, he said around 1 in every ten thousand children are affected with this “packaging disorders” of the legs.

He said in Garo Hills, they have just started treating children with such cases so it will take time to treat such kids.

In Garo Hills, only Holy Cross Hospital and Civil hospital is well equipped to treat such patients.
