Shillong, Jan 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Wahiajer Prime Hub in Wahiajer, on Tuesday, with Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar present at the ceremony.
During his address, Chief Minister Sangma highlighted the significance of establishing Prime Hubs across the state to promote entrepreneurship at the grassroots level with a goal to enable individuals and communities to engage in diverse economic activities.
Reflecting on the initiative that began in 2018, Chief Minister Sangma expressed satisfaction in witnessing the Wahiajer Prime Hub, which focuses on adding value to the broomstick industry.
Sangma underlined the potential to boost the broom sector’s value from the current 1000 crores to 2000 crores by manufacturing broomsticks through value addition to broom grass.
“Our goal when we started off in 2018 was to see how do we create more value to the different activities that our people are already engaged in and we started off with the broomstick industry and today I am happy to see this Prime Hub that will be manufacturing broomsticks by adding value to the broom grass,” he said.
Additionally, the Chief Minister Sangma announced plans to establish Prime Hubs in every block of the state, serving as Rural Technology cum Knowledge Hubs with an aim to provide support to small farmers, producer groups, and agri-entrepreneurs. The Rural Prime Hubs will enhance incomes through capacity building, market accessibility, credit, technical expertise, processing, packaging, and funding support.
