Guwahati, Dec 4: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has called on stakeholders to propose state-specific, actionable strategies to position Arunachal Pradesh as a premier adventure tourism destination.
Speaking at the 16th Annual Adventure Convention of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) in Tawang, Khandu stressed that while financial resources are not a hurdle, technical expertise is crucial for the sector’s development.
“The government alone, with its limited technical know-how, cannot fully unlock the immense potential of adventure tourism in Arunachal Pradesh,” Khandu said. “We need insights from adventure enthusiasts and organizations like ATOAI to shape policies at both state and central levels.”
He commended ATOAI for creating a booklet outlining adventure tourism opportunities and mapped routes for visitors, expressing optimism that the six-day convention (December 3-8) would produce innovative ideas to boost adventure tourism across Arunachal Pradesh, the North East, and the country.
Khandu reaffirmed his support for ATOAI, emphasizing collaboration: “Let’s work together to elevate adventure tourism to a top-tier industry. I stand with ATOAI whenever and wherever needed.”
Promoting a sustainable approach, Khandu advocated a “high-value, low-volume” tourism model, focusing on empowering local communities through homestays and skill development. He stressed the importance of balancing tourism growth with cultural preservation and environmental protection.
“Our vision should extend beyond numbers. It’s about creating a lasting impact that benefits the economy, safeguards cultural identity, and preserves the environment for future generations,” Khandu concluded.
