Nongstoiñ, Aug 19: One coal mine worker died and another was critically injured after the roof of a coal mine in West Khasi Hills District collapsed on Thursday evening.

Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills, HG Lyngdoh informed that the coal mine is in Goreng (Urak) under the Shallang Police Station, West Khasi Hills.

After learning of the incident, Lyngdoh said a team of police personnel was sent to the area immediately to properly investigate the incident.

The deceased has been identified as one Lependro Sangma (34) and the injured has been identified as Hendid Momin (33). Both belong to the village of Uguri (Goraimari) under Kharkutta Police Station.
