Jowai, April 28: In order to promote agriculture and to help the farming community of certain villages under Amlarem Civil Subdivision, the Home Minster and MLA of Amlarem Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday inaugurated the Collective Marketing Center (CMC) at Shkenpyrsit village.
The CMC was constructed through the Integrated Village Cooperative Society (IVCS) of the village under the Meghalaya Livelihood Access To Marketing Programme (MegLAMP).
Rymbui while delivering his speech stated that the farming community which comprises of about 70% of the state’s population were neglected by the previous government but with the present Government many programmes have been introduced which will benefit them in many ways.
He further stated that the state govt has introduced many programmes like the Piggery Mission, Jackfruit Mission, FOCUS Programme, amongst others which are farmer friendly and stressed that they should take advantage of these programmes and use the benefits to further increase their produce.
He further stated that the people the village should identify plants and vegetation that are best suitable with their land and surroundings and start cultivating them in order to benefit more than what they would if they cultivated other plants.
During the day Cheques were also distributed to 81 Producers Group under the FOCUS Programme and the MegLAM amounting to Rs T. 64 lakhs.
