Communal tension erupts in North Tripura after temple and mosque vandalised, internet suspended

Agartala, Oct 16: Tension has gripped North Tripura District after communal tension erupted between the Hindu and Muslim communities at Pekucherra on Tuesday.

The tensions erupted after ‘unknown miscreants’ damaged a Shiva temple at the mixed populated Pekucherra area on Monday night.

In retaliation, a group of people vandalised a mosque causing serious tension in the area.

To control the situation, huge contingents of security forces have been deployed and prohibitory orders clamped in the entire district.

Mobile internet services have also been suspended in the district for 72 hours, in effect from 7 PM of October 15.
