Jowai, Sept 11: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of East Jaintia Hills has urged the general public, commuters and drivers to take necessary precautions and to obey the traffic regulations while crossing bridges along the National Highway 6 (NH 6) in the district, especially under Lumshnong C&RD Block which are is very bad condition.
In a public advisory issued on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, East Jaintia Hills District, said several bridges at Tongseng Village, Sonapyrdi Village, Pyrtakuna Village, Umkiang Village, and Rattacherra Village under Lumshnong C&RD Block, all of which are along the NH-6, are in dilapidated conditions which can pose an imminent danger to the general public and for public transport.
For the safety of everyone and to avoid any ‘untoward incident’, the Project Director of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in Shillong has been instructed to take immediate restorative measures to light of the critical importance of these bridges.
Till the time the repairs and restoration of the bridges are not completed, the District Disaster Management Authority has urged the public, including commuters and drivers, to exercise extreme caution and obey traffic regulations while crossing these bridges.
