Guwahati, June 15: Assam urban affairs minister Ashok Singhal on Wednesday held meeting with the professors of IIT-Guwahati (IIT-G) and asked them to conduct a comprehensive study on safety, design and cost analysis of water project in the city after two back-to-back incidents of bursting of underground drinking water pipeline in Guwahati.
In-depth meeting with professor Rajeev Kumar Bhattacharya from civil engineering department of IIT-G, Singhal discussed the water project safety in Guwahati.
Taking to Twitter, Minister wrote,” In view of the recent incidents of water supply project pipeline burst in the city, held an in-depth meeting with Professor Shri Rajeev Kumar Bhattacharya from the Civil Engineering Department, IIT, Guwahati.”
“During the meeting, I emphasized the need to bring scientific solutions to address the pressing issues so that such incidents do not occur in future.
“Urged Professor Bhattacharya to conduct a comprehensive study encompassing safety, design & cost analysis of the project.”
“The investigation should focus on aspects such as design integrity, safety factors, operation and maintenance protocols of the pipeline infra in the city.”
“In order to expedite the resolution process, I urged him to begin his work immediately & provide a preliminary report at the earliest.”

On the other hand, housing and urban affairs department secretary Pabitra Ram Khaund has been entrusted by the minister to probe the underground drinking water pipe burst incident that took place at Rajgarh in Guwahati on Monday.
