Guwahati, Feb 2: Assam Congress has targeted 101 seats in the 126-member Assam assembly and the party will apply Chhattisgarh model to ensure victory in the upcoming elections in the Northeastern state.
Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said that a team of experts from Chhattisgarh has been imparting training to Assam Congress leaders and workers.
Ahead of Assembly elections in Assam, the main political parties have geared up and used different strategies to ‘woo’ voters.
Bora said though BJP was in power both at the center and the state, Congress won 70 seats out of 90 in Chhattisgarh.
While reacting to Bora’s statement, NEDA convenor and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Congress would get this number in Bangladesh.
Sarma said they may get 100 seats not in Assam but in Bangladesh.
On the other hand, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi hit back at Sarma saying, “We don’t need votes from Bangladesh, Assamese people will give us 100 plus seats. After Himanta Biswa Sarma’s comment, people will give us 102 seats now.”
