SHILLONG, Sept 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday wore a shirt made of fine and eco-friendly Ryndia silk and told the Assembly “I am proud of the products that are made by our own weavers”.
“I am happy to tell you that the shirt I am wearing right now is actually made from Ryndia. This colour (green) is a natural dye and not only that this is being designed and stitched by our local designers. This is a pure and a complete made in Meghalaya shirt and this is the kind of product that we are encouraging,” Sangma said while replying to a short duration discussion on price rise.
“So people were asking me why did you wear this (shirt) today. Well I said I am proud of it. I am proud of the products that are being made by our weavers. This has been woven by a women self-help group and designed by local designers,” he said. Sangma said the government is working on such areas to ensure value addition takes place.
