Shillong, Mar 7: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has completed six years and has been able to provide ‘stable’ and ‘consistent’ growth to the state.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the one year completion of the MDA-2 government also coincides with the 6th year anniversary of the MDA government as a whole – MDA-1 and MDA-2 together.

“It has been of course very exciting journey and we have seen many challenges along the way, many difficulties over the years but as a team with a lot of coordination and lots of trust and a lot of hard work, we have been able to overcome some of the challenges and bring the state on a certain path I should say stable and a consistent growth that we are seeing now in the overall economic scenario of the state,” he said.

“We strongly feel that in the last 6 years, the foundations that have been laid are now going to be very important for the next level of growth which we will achieve in the coming years and hence we are very excited,” Sangma added.

The chief minister also took the opportunity to thank all his colleagues in the MDA including cabinet ministers of both MDA-1 and MDA-2, and political parties, who have worked to make this happen, and the society at large for really being with the government.

Stating that there will always be challenges and there will always be people, who will not agree with everything the government is doing, Sangma however said, “That is how democracy is but as I said overall, we are happy to see the works that’s been done, a lot more is desired and for me as I was mentioning earlier it is not about anniversary, everyday is important for me.”

“I wish not to lose any moment or any minute where we can work and take the state forward but more importantly today is a very important day for us to recommit ourselves to the state and to our people and to reaffirms all the beliefs and thoughts that we have had while we form the government and recommit ourselves to ensuring that we take our state and people forward.”

Asked about the common minimum programme, the chief minister said, “In fact our Mission 10  is itself a minimum common programme of course it is more of an economic document but most of the areas we have focused on where issues have come out we have taken a large effort has been put in and number of steps have been taken and all other issues which were there in the MDA-1 and we continue to do that and that is how things are moving forward. So the commitments we have given in MDA-1, those commitments will continue and will continue to achieve the different goals that we have.”
