Kohima, March 25: Two bigwigs of regional politics in the north east having sway over their respective states, NPP chief and Meghalaya Chief minister Conrad K Sangma and Neiphiu Rio- the Nagaland Chief Minister and head of his Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), came together on Monday in Kohima to send out a strong message to their opponents of the herculean task awaiting them against a united front pitched by the NDA alliance for the upcoming elections slated for April 19th.
Called on Hon’ble Chief Minister Nagaland @Neiphiu_Rio ji along with party leaders and party MLAs from Nagaland to extend support to Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) for the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

The BJP has decided against fielding its own candidates for the Kohima (Nagaland) and Tura-Shillong Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya, announcing its support for the NPP and NDPP candidates- something of a rare decision by the BJP when it comes to smaller parties and states.
The NPP chief also met with the president of the Naga People’s Front, Manipur unit at Dimapur and announced the NPP support for the NPF candidate for Outer Manipur, Mr Kachui Timothy Zimik.

Equally, the NPP has reciprocated by not contesting the lone seat in Nagaland.
Conrad Sangma took time out of his busy schedule to fly down to Nagaland to meet with Rio and extend the support base of each other’s party for their respective candidates.
“Our state committee in Nagaland had a meeting today and we have decided to endorse the candidature of the NDPP and also give our support in the true team spirit of the NDA,” said Conrad K Sangma during a press conference in Kohima.
He said that all NDA partners are united in supporting each other in the true team spirit of the NDA.
“As you are aware, the NDA partners have expressed similar support to different political parties of the NDA who have sponsored candidates in different parts of the north east. For example, the NDA partners are supporting the candidature of the NPP in Meghalaya, in Arunachal the NDA partners are supporting the candidature of the BJP, and in the outer Manipur seat we will be supporting the candidature of the NPF,” announced Conrad Sangma.
The NPP has a considerable base in Nagaland with 5 MLAs of the party getting elected in state polls, last year, ahead of the main opposition party Nagaland Peoples’ front (2 MLAs) and the Congress (1 MLA).
The NPP even proved the political pundits wrong with a surprise victory in the prestigious Kohima Town constituency by its candidate Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso.
The NPP’s support base in 5 constituencies, the BJP’s 12 MLAs and the ruling party NDPP’s 25 MLAs in house of just 60 seats is being looked upon as a victory for the alliance even before the battle has begun.
