Must read

Shillong, Nov 12: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Sunday wishes everyone on the auspicious occasion of Diwali.

Taking to social media platform X, he conveyed his heartfelt Diwali wishes. Sangma’s message resonated with the spirit of the Festival of Lights, as he expressed hope for the illumination of lives with warmth and love.

“May the Festival of Lights brighten our lives with hope and light our homes with warmth and love. Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali!,” he wrote.

Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. The word “Deepavali” itself means a row of lights (deepa/lamp), and during the festival, people illuminate their homes with lamps, candles, and decorative lights to dispel darkness.

It is also celebrated to commemorate the return of Lord Rama, along with his wife Sita and loyal companion Lakshmana, to the city of Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. The people of Ayodhya welcomed them by lighting lamps, and this event is narrated in the epic Ramayana.

The festival of lights is also associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. Devotees believe that by lighting lamps and offering prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, they invite her blessings into their homes and lives.

Diwali is also the time for families to come together, strengthen bonds, and celebrate relationships. On this day, people exchange gifts, share festive meals, and engage in various cultural and social activities, fostering a sense of unity and joy.
