Imphal, Oct 29: NPP chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today attended flag hoisting ceremony of the party at Wangoi constituency for the upcoming by-election schedule for November 7 along with Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Y. Joykumar Singh, Meghalaya Power Minister James K. Sangma and a host of other leaders of the party.
Addressing the rally, Sangma thanked NPP candidate Loken Singh for inviting him for the flag hoisting ceremony for the upcoming by-election. He said that since the formation of the NPP, the party have a clear agenda in mind – “to be the voice of the people of Northeast”.
Hitting out at other national political parties, Sangma said, “Most national parties have focus in central India and rest of the country. NPP as a national party has its presence pan India, however, its prime focus is Northeast”.
“Being the only national party from Northeast – NPP has been able to garner enough political weight to make its voice heard loud and clear in Delhi. NPP has clearly filled the vacuum and has become a strong political voice from Northeast,” Sangma added.
“We believe that there should be a political party that will speak, fight and work for the people of the Northeast,” asserted Sangma while informing that out of seven political parties in India, NPP is the only recognised national party from Northeast.
Terming that NPP is in a position to take up the issues that matters to the Northeast, he reiterated that NPP is the only political force from Northeast in the national arena.
Urging the youth to join NPP, he said, “We need a voice, we need a platform , we need a political party that is going to fight for us, that is going to raise our voice and that is going to ensure that justice is done when it comes to Northeast”.
We will work together to ensure that the issues and concerns of #Manipur is always given the loud voice. NPP is for #Northeast and we are in our fight together to better the lives of our people. #ManipurForNPP pic.twitter.com/PhAYA53iqf

“We have so many communities in the region, our leaders are in different political parties. However, we have not been able to become one voice from the region. NPP is an opportunity for different communities to come together in a single platform and unitedly fight for Northeast,” he said, while urging the people to support and work with the NPP and strengthen the party.
Recalling his late father Purno Agitok Sangma, he said, “He (Purno) was instrumental in shaping me as a leader and his advice not to fight for post or position will always encourage me to work for the people”.
Terming the former MLA of Wangoi constituency Lukhoi Singh as “selfish”, he said, “Lukhoi resigned from the post of MLA just to get a ministerial berth”.
“It is time for the people of Wangoi to choose a leader who will be committed to his people. A leader whom people can trust and I see Loken Singh as the leader for the people of Wangoi,” he urged, while making an appeal to the people to vote for NPP.
