Shillong, Oct 7: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma would be visiting the flood and landslide affected areas of Garo Hills on Tuesday to assess the situation and interact with the villagers and inmates in relief camps.
He would be visiting affected areas in Dalu in West Garo Hills, Atisia Songmong in South Garo Hills and other adjoining areas as well as personally meet people currently staying in relief camps in these areas.
He will also be visiting the next of kin of the deceased in West and South Garo Hills.
Ministers, MLAs, senior officials of the government will accompany the CM during his visit to the affected areas.
Later, he will hold a review meeting with administrations of West and South Garo Hills to take stock of the overall damage to life and property.
Expressing his deepest condolences to those who have lost their families, friends and relatives, the chief minister has directed administration to release the ex-gratia amount to the next of kin immediately.
Additionally, he has assured of all relief and rehabilitation measures to the affected people.
The Chief Minister also informed that all restoration works are underway and ensured all relief measures will be provided.
17 people have lost their lives in the 4 days of torrential rains in Garo Hills, particularly affecting West and South Garo Hills.
Atleast 17000 people in the region are taking shelter in relief camps, with West Garo Hills alone having 68 camps.
