Shillong, July 7: Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma on Friday visited the Byrwa village in Ri-Bhoi and interacted with the farmers cultivating aromatic plants under the flagship Aroma Mission.
Sharing the glimpses from his visit, CM Conrad said on Twitter, “the farmers in this village have transformed the aromatic plants into valuable products – essential oils and natural repellents.”
“Happy to learn that the farmers have started to work on possibilities to extract the oil to produce perfumes,” he said.
CM also said that as a Government, we will foster collaboration among organizations to create more such value-added products from aromatic plants.

About Meghalaya’s Aroma Mission:
The main motive of this Aroma Mission is to bring additional area of 30,000 hectares under cultivation of these crops by interventions of CSIR to further catalyze the cultivation of aromatic crops in about 60,000 hectares.
