Shillong, Jan 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has informed that the construction of the much-awaited Shillong ropeway project will start very soon.
He however said that there is one small aspect relating to trees that is pending but the work for construction of the project has already been allotted.
“I am not sure if that (issue) has been resolved but I presumed it has been resolved by now,” Sangma said while further explaining, “There are trees below the line of the proposed ropeway. So the forest department has given permission to chop the branches but the implementing agencies have requested that if they can be given permission to completely clear that forest land out there and they have proposed that there’s something called a forest fire line, which is a gap that is kept to ensure that the forest fire doesn’t continue. They were requested that if that fire line could be right below the ropeway project then that would serve both the purposes.”
“So that particular decision and that particular implementation of that decision was pending but as I said all the paperwork and everything has been done. We expect the actual physical work should start very soon,” the CM further added.
