Shillong, June 9: The four-laning of the Shillong-Dawki road from Umshyrpi to Sadew at Upper Shillong has been temporarily halted as the contractor entrusted with the construction work has abandoned the project.
This information came from Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma after the Cabinet meeting here on Thursday.
“The tendering process was done by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and yes, the concerned contractor has abandoned the work and the Government of India (NHIDCL) has re-tendered to select a new contractor,” the Chief Minister informed.
“…the process is on, we (State Government) are pushing for the NHIDCL to complete the process (re-tendered) as soon as possible so work can resume at the earliest,” he added.
He further added that the NHIDCL will take appropriate actions against the concerned contractor as the reason for abandoning the project is best known to them.
