Shillong, Nov 22: The stage is all set for counting of votes on Saturday for the Gambegre bye-election. Counting will start at 8 AM at the office premises of the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura.
A total of 14 tables will be used across the 51 Polling Stations.
As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the Postal ballots will be counted first at the counting table of the Returning Officer and after 30 minutes, the EVM counting will commence at the counting tables.
As per instructions of the Election Commission of India, a three-tier security cordon has been set up at the Counting Centre.
Adequate number of CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations, in consultation with the observers, to ensure transparency and security during the counting.
The bye-election was held on November 13, with voter turnout of 90.93 percent.
The fate of six candidates will be known on Saturday. The candidates are ruling NPP candidate Dr Mehtab Chandee A Sangma who is the wife of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Congress candidate Jingjang M Marak, who is also the close aide of Tura MP Saleng A Sangma, apart from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate Sadhiarani Sangma, who is also an MDC and the sister-in-law of former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, who is at present the Leader of Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Bernard N Marak of the BJP and two independents, Sengkrabirth M Marak and Jerry A Sangma, are also in the fray.
