At the same time, the vaccine will be effect in bring down the fatalities due to the virus.
From January till May, this year, a total of 8,000 deaths have taken place of which only 400 have died due to COVID-19.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said, “Taking that into consideration and taking the vaccination status into consideration, we are very confident and hopeful to see that this vaccination drive, which we have undertaken, will provide the necessary protection to the people of the state.”
Stating that the positive cases are more or less constant at 400-500 at present, Dr War added, “What we can see now is that there is a slight flattening of the curve.”
Asked if the situation is conducive for the state government to open up economic activities, he however said economic activities have to go side by side with the fight against the pandemic.
Hailing the order passed by the Meghalaya High Court with regards to the vaccination issue, the Director said the court has clearly stated that those who spread rumours about the efficacy of the vaccination, severe action can be taken against them by the government.
“In this time of pandemic we don’t want to go into all those things but we have seen the malicious intent of certain sections wherein something which is good they have painted it to be bad and that I think the government will take a very strong action on this,” he said.
“As of now, as we progress and as we move on, we hope that although COVID will always be with us, we will be able to adapt to the situation and let life go on as usual,” Dr War added.
