Shillong, Sept 23: United Democratic Party (UDP) chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday said allowing holding of the cow protection rally in Shillong will disturb peace and harmony.
He was reacting to the proposed holding of the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra in Shillong on October 2.
“It is not advisable for them to have these kinds of things as unnecessarily it will create a kind of a disturbances among the people,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
Asking the Hindu group to refrain from intefering with other religious beliefs, the UDP chief said, “Let us respect whatever faith you have, religion that you have, you practice your own but don’t try to interfere with others.”
“Here (in Meghalaya), we also have lots of Hindus, Muslims and different communities, they practice their own and we never disturb them so likewise it has to be the same also that is what we look upto other religions and communities that we have to respect each other as far as our religious practice is concerned,” he added.
