CRPF in Meghalaya completes 98 percent Covid vaccination

Shillong, May 4: Out of 1,257 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Meghalaya a total of 1049 personnel has received the COVID-19 vaccination, which covers 98% of it.

Speaking with media persons on Tuesday, Commandant of 67 BN CRPF, Alok Bhattacharya said that since day one of vaccination they have been carrying out a robust process. He said that apart from strict directions given by the state government to quarantine any personnel returning, they are keeping the personnel under close observation even after they have tested negative for COVID-19.

“One has to understand that the personnel are the most vulnerable ones since they live in congested camps so it becomes a threat,” stated Bhattacharya.

He said that a major concern is with personnel who have been on the move or those who have been on leave. However, they will be kept under quarantine and all protocols will be strictly followed.

The CRPF hospital at Polo, Shillong has been designated as a vaccination center has also been open for civilians.

According to Dr. Utpal Gogoi, CMO at 67 BN CRPF, the hospital which is a 10 bedded hospital is at the moment managing with 4 beds. Dr Gogoi said that they are procuring more oxygen and bipap.

He informed that the hospital is equipped to deal with any severe cases. The hospital which is also a COVID response center also carries out COVID-19 tests. Dr Gogoi stated that at present there are 24 COVID-19 positive cases and all of these are mild cases.
