Shillong, June 14: Meghalaya Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has termed the Covid-19 pandemic as a war on humanity and everyone need to come together to fight it. He said this during the Covid review meeting convened by him at the State Convention Centre here in Shillong on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Health Minister, A L Hek and other cabinet ministers including Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul M. Sangma and other leaders representing different political parties.

“The objective of initiating this review meeting right from last year from my (Meghalaya Speaker’s) office is to ensure that all the hon’ble members (MLAs) come together and fight against this Covid-19,” he told reporters after the meeting.
He said the ongoing pandemic is a war and all the legislators need to come together to defeat the virus. “Us, the hon’ble members of the August House, I was convinced that we have to come together as one and fight against this,” he said.
Stating that the meeting was very “positive”, the Speaker informed that various suggestions were put forth by the legislators who attended the review meeting.
During the meeting, the health department apprised the members on different initiatives currently implanted on ground by the government to manage the “Second Wave” of Covid and also preparedness for the “Third Wave”.
He also said that the suggestions from the opposition parties have been noted and the government will take corrective measures, if required.
