Cyclone Remal: State Govt allocates ₹19.85 Cr for immediate relief to victims in all districts

SHILLONG, MAY 30: Minister in-charge of Revenue & Disaster Management Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday informed that Rs 19.85 crore has been released to the twelve districts for providing immediate relief to victims of cyclone Remal in the state.

“Overall Rs 19.85 crore has been released to all 12 districts for extending immediate relief to victims,” Shylla told reporters.

“The amount has been released so that they can utilize it for immediate relief and they need not wait for norms to be followed. They can release the money and follow the procedures later on,” he said.

The minister informed that there was one death, 5 injured, over 5619 population affected in 271 villages, 910 houses and 95 infrastructures were damaged due to heavy rainfall and strong winds caused by the cyclone Remal.

He said the cyclone was very alarming in the state but the department along with all government machinery are on full alert to provide safety and rehabilitation to the affected people.

When asked about the housing scheme, the minister said “As per my knowledge when it comes to the housing scheme (CGI Sheets) which we receive from the departments, whenever we receive it, we give it to the public”.

“In case of any emergencies, whatever can be done from deputy commissioner level, he is doing it and there are times that are not enough with that budget which they are giving to the public. S additional, as MLA I used to give additional whatever because from the MLA scheme we used to buy CHI Sheets” he added.

The minister informed that as of now the department has not distributed to everyone even though some have already distributed to the affected population.

He added that as per norms, direct CGI Sheets cannot be given by deputy commissioner, but under his leadership, however he feels the need to do with the amount of money sent, the respective DCs can find ways and means how to support the family and so sometimes they will give CGI Sheets.
