Tura, July 7: Strongly condemning the brutal assault of a woman from North Garo Hills by Assam police personnel in Dudhnoi police station on Monday, a large number of people along with organizations from the region staged a protest rally at Bangsi Apal playground on Thursday morning.
Demanding justice for the victim who was severely beaten up by the Assam police personnel, the protestors said that mere suspension of the accused police personnel was not sufficient and they must be removed from service. They also sought compensation for the victim.
Senior member of Mothers Union of Dainadubi unit, Smt. Numberline R Sangma spoke on behalf of the mothers of the region condemning the inhuman treatment meted out to a woman by uniformed personnel.
The AHAM president of Dainadubi unit Nimalson K Sangma demanded justice for the victim and stern punishment of the guilty.Primary Teachers Association member from northern zone B S Sangma, Garo Students Union leaders and CSWO Garo Hills president Jenny Ningring N Sangma also addressed the gathering on the issue.
The victim Mousmi Momin was badly beaten up by Dudhnoi police after a coal exporter filed an FIR of cheating against her husband even though the couple has denied the allegations.
