Tura, Sept 12: The state Forest and Wildlife department on Thursday denied reports that a young elephant calf has died due to electrocution.
The carcass of the young elephant aged around 3-4 years old was found at Assam-Meghalaya border at Kurung-Pedaldoba. There were reports circulating that it died due to electrocution.
However, officials from the department of Forest and Wildlife have denied these reports and informed that a preliminary investigation was done on the carcass, which suggested it died due to viral infection.
However, the exact cause of the death would be further confirmed with the post mortem reported, which is awaited.
