Shillong, Jan 17: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said that acquiring of defence land may be considered as the best solution to resolve long pending issue of relocation of 342 families of Harijan colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, Tynsong said that the state government has requested the government of India to atleast consider allotting 2.5 or 3 acres of unutilized defence land, which is located just opposite a petrol pump at Iew Mawlong.
“If they (GOI) can do that I am very sure within no time, we will be able to resolve this issue,” he said.
On the issue related to the Gurudwara, Tynsong however said, “We are yet to reach to that point of discussion (dismantling worship place) because whatever, they (Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) said we wanted to get a land near the old place and that is what we are trying to get that old place (by requesting allotment of a defence land out there). If we get (the defence land) nothing like it.”
On the other hand, the deputy CM said that the state government has already prepared a blueprint in case the defence land is not available.
“But if we don’t, we already prepared the blueprint. The government has already prepared everything, it is already in our hands,” he added.
Stating that the state government is now waiting for Centre’s decision on the matter, Tynsong said, “So now we have to just wait if we can again may be get the blessings of the government of India for that plot, which we already proposed and even from the HPC themselves, they already proposed.”
“If we get may be that should be the best solution,” he concluded.
