Shillong, July 15: Following government’s decision to upgrade Mairang Civil Sub-Division to full-fledged District level before 15th August this year, the Dadenggre District Demand Committee (DDDC) has expressed resentment over ignoring its demand of upgrading the Dadenggre Sub-Division to District level for the past 22 years.
In a press statement, DDDC chairman, Francewell Marak said they have been demanding the full-fledged district for Dadenggre right since 1999, and have submitted the memorandum for the same on different occasions.
The demand was first made in 1999 and memo was submitted to the then Chief Minister, (L) Dr Donkupar Roy, in 2015 a similar memo was submitted to then CM, Dr. Mukul Sangma. The most recent was submission of the letter to Dadenggre MLA and incumbent power minister, James K Sangma. Yet, all these have been without any effect.
Marak remarked that “such negligence on MDA part and denial for upgradation to full fledged (district) has wounded us and our sentiments.”
Marak has also pleaded to all the MLAs under the Dadenggre Sub-Division which includes six constituencies, namely Phulbari, Rajabala, Selsella, Tikrikilla, Raksamgre and Dadenggre, to come together to fulfil their demand of a district for Dadenggre.
Mentionably, Dadenggre was made into a Sub-Division under West Garo Hills in 1982.
