Shillong, Dec 10:Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Wednesday urged the state government to fulfill their promises of delivering Inner Line Permit (ILP).
Addressing media after holding meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, Mukul Sangma said, “What has been promised must be fulfilled by the government”.
Stating that the opposition Congress led by him will soon meet the Governor over the status of the amended Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), Mukul questioned if the state government’s delay to implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) was by default or by design.
“Now I am saying that opposition has already shaken and woken them up during the last session of the Assembly, saying that look you have been given this mandate in the august house through resolution, which was adopted unanimously. What are they waiting for?” he asked.
Mukul further asked the MDA government to stop playing to the gallery over the ILP issue. “They (state govt) need not play to the gallery nor do we want to play to the gallery. We want to be practical and we are serious,” he added.
Meanwhile, in solidarity with farmers’ protest across the country against the three farm laws, Mukul stated that the Government of India should have taken into consideration the opinions of the nation’s farmers before implementing the three laws, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
“Government of India is saying we are benefiting the farmers, but farmers are saying they don’t agree. Then we should not be adamant, we should not be seen as people who are insensitive while being in power,” he said.
