Tura, March 29: With growing demand for administrative decentralization and regional development in the Garo Hills by way of establishing the winter capital in Tura, the A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) held its 5th public meeting to ramp up efforts to push for the winter capital demand at the Salbari Rabukong playground in Pedaldoba, West Garo Hills, on Saturday.
The event was attended by representatives (Nokmas/Sorders) from over 50 villages, as well as notable leaders from various non-governmental organizations.
Among those present were Malsin Marak, Secretary of the AYWO A·chotchonggre Regional Unit; Witjess Marak, representing the Constitutional Rights Forum (CRF); and Withing Marak, Secretary of the All Garo Hills Merchant Association (AGHMA) Raksamgre Unit. Their participation strengthened the momentum of support for the meeting.

Among the prominent speakers was Kinjing Ch Sangma, the Nokma of Dandarigri A·king land, who urged the elected representatives of the Garo Hills region to actively pursue initiatives that would benefit the area.
Additionally, the Nokma of Dengangre articulated that the establishment of a Winter Capital in Tura represents the fulfillment of a long-held aspiration, which would enhance accessibility to administrative services and significantly reduce the financial costs associated with traveling to Shillong for official purposes.
