Department of Fisheries organises 6th edition of State Aqua Fest in city

Shillong, Oct 26: The fish farmers of the state showcased fish products in the 6th edition of the State Aqua Fest organised by the Department of Fisheries on Wednesday at State Central Library, Shillong.

Stalls were also set up and run by various government departments, Self Help Groups (SHGs), NGOs, farmers and entrepreneurs who were displaying and selling fish and other products.

The programme aims to showcase the developments taking place in the fishery sector, under the Meghalaya government. Through this fest the state government is promoting entrepreneurship in fish farming sector.

The State Aqua Fest is basically a platform where buyers and sellers come together, and also creates a space where the government and farmers come together and reinforce the commitment towards making Meghalaya self-sufficient, explained Chairman of the Meghalaya Farmers (Empowerment) Commission KN Kumar.

From smoked fish and local breeds to fish pickles and dry fish, a variety of fish species were showcased during the 6th edition of the State Aqua festival.

Fish farmers from across the state converged at the State Library’s premises to exchange ideas and sell their products.
