Shillong, May 24: Meghalaya Deputy Chief minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also the Minister in-charge of Home (Police), held an urgent meeting on Friday with East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu and Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi at the Secretariat.

According to sources, Deputy Chief Minister Tynsong has requested a detailed report on the Lum Survey incident that occurred the previous day. The administration is expected to include all stakeholders in the report, ensuring a comprehensive review of the situation.

The emergency meeting also addressed various law and order issues in the district. The East Khasi Hills police have invoked several sections, including those under the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order (MMPO) Act, against leaders of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) for conducting an eviction drive against alleged illegal settlers at Lum Survey. A case, registered under various sections.

Speaking to reporters , Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills, Rituraj Ravi confirmed that the MMPO sections, among others, have been applied against HYC leaders. He declined to comment on the potential arrests of HYC leaders, stating that it is a matter of further investigation. The sections were applied based on the acts committed during the eviction and the sequence of events.

The Hynniewtrep Youth Council conducted the eviction drive on Thursday, targeting alleged illegal settlers and dismantling their houses at Lum Survey. This action followed the completion of a two-week notice period issued by the organization after a joint inspection by the district administration and the HYC.
