Shillong, July 20: The new DGP of Meghalaya, Lajja Ram Bishnoi, on Wednesday made a suprise visit to Mawlai and interacted with the residents to understand the problems faced by the people of the area.
DGP Bishnoi was accompanied by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtynger, Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem, and a handful of police officials as they marched from Mawlai Kynton Massar towards Mawlai Standbus and to Mawlai Phudmuri.
As he marched, Bishnoi interacted with the headman, the passersby, students and shopkeepers, enquiring about their problems and urged the youth to not indulge in substance abuse. He also encouraged them to get involved more in sports activities and studies.
Speaking to reporters later, DGP Bishnoi said that the purpose of his visit to the location is to create a bond and to seek the cooperation of the people in a gesture which meant to bring policing closer to the people.
“The area is peaceful, the residents are very humble, in some localities the people complained about the drug trafficking and the drug peddler… but with the help of the people we want to go ahead and control this problem,” he added.
“…there is a need for cooperation between the people and the police as only the police alone cannot find all the solutions, we have come here to seek the cooperation of the people and particularly the Dorbar Shnong,” further said Bishnoi.
He also urged the Dorbar Shnong to help the police interact with the youth who have fallen prey to substance abuse.
Mentionably, DGP Lajja Ram Bishnoi on July 1 made a suprise visit to Jaiaw to supervise the existing security arrangements in the area.
