Dibrugarh airport set for major transformation

Dibrugarh, Dec 24: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Advisory Committee at Dibrugarh Airport on Monday, spotlighting transformative developments in the region’s aviation infrastructure.

The highlight of the meeting was a review of the ambitious runway expansion project, a key step toward bolstering the airport’s capacity and enhancing its role as a strategic gateway to Northeast India. The committee delved into critical aspects of the airport’s infrastructure, aligning plans with the broader vision for regional growth.

Reflecting on the strides made since 2014, Sonowal said, “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Dibrugarh has emerged as a symbol of progress. Enhanced connectivity and state-of-the-art infrastructure have turned the airport into a vital hub for trade, tourism, and development, linking Northeast India seamlessly to the world. Through the transformative ‘UDAN’ scheme, our government has reimagined aviation, democratizing air travel and empowering citizens across India.”

He emphasized the central government’s commitment to modernizing Dibrugarh Airport, calling it a “beacon of progress” for Assam and the Northeast. Sonowal expressed confidence that the ongoing Runway Expansion project would be completed by next year, propelling the airport to new heights and reinforcing its role in the region’s growth story.
