Dibrugarh, April 3: The District Transport Office (DTO) in Dibrugarh has reported a record revenue collection of Rs. 92,00,66,371 for the Financial Year (FY) 2024–25, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s total of Rs. 84,03,86,939.

“This growth in revenue is attributed to various sources including motor vehicle taxes, registration and licensing fees, pollution control charges, fines for traffic violations, and arrear collections from tax defaulters,” said DTO Hirakjyoti Deka. He noted that the rise reflects both enhanced compliance and increased vehicle transactions in the district.

In 2023–24, the DTO had achieved 91.14% of its revenue target of Rs. 92.20 crore. Key contributors during that period included Rs. 10.34 crore from compounded fines, Rs. 2.35 crore from arrear tax collections, and Rs. 8.49 lakh from the Assam Passenger & Goods Tax (APGT).

For the financial year 2024-25, the revenue from motor vehicle tax (non-transport) was Rs. 58.21 crore, motor vehicle tax (transport) – Rs. 13.88 crore, motor vehicle fees – Rs. 8.22 crore, compounded fines – Rs. 10.37 crore, permit fees – Rs. 31.94 lakh, arrear tax collection – Rs. 1.17 crore, pollution under control certificate fees – Rs. 36.63 lakh, road safety cess – Rs. 58.43 lakh, and APGT – Rs. 3.99 lakh.

While compounded fines saw a marginal increase of Rs. 3.30 lakh compared to last year, the arrear tax collection declined by Rs. 1.18 crore, an encouraging sign of growing tax compliance among vehicle owners.

DTO Deka emphasized that the department will continue efforts to streamline services and promote adherence to transport regulations to sustain this upward trend.
