Dibrugarh, Dec 24: The festive spirit is alive and thriving in Dibrugarh as the community prepares to celebrate Christmas, a day symbolizing love, hope, and the birth of Jesus Christ.
The historic Catholic Church at Khalihamari, built in 1931 and one of the oldest in the Northeast, is dazzling in its holiday splendor. Strings of colorful, flickering lights, illuminated stars, and radiant Christmas trees have transformed the church into a beacon of festive cheer.
Across the town, other churches—such as the Baptist Church on Jail Road, the Church of Jesus Christ in Kadamoni, the Presbyterian Church of India in Paltan Bazar, and the Church of North India in South Khalihamari—are equally vibrant, abuzz with activities as they prepare for the big day.
Inside the Catholic Church, an elegant tableau of Jesus Christ takes center stage, surrounded by beautifully decorated cribs that symbolize His humble birth. The sight draws worshippers and visitors alike, creating an atmosphere of reverence and joy.
“Christmas is a time to pray for harmony, celebrate love, and embrace forgiveness,” said Gabriel Kujur, Assistant Parish Priest. “People from all faiths come together here to celebrate. Over 3,000 Christians are expected to attend the midnight mass, and our choir group will perform Christmas carols to mark the occasion.”
Beyond the churches, homes across Dibrugarh are dressed in their holiday best—adorned with twinkling stars, flower wreaths, and glittering Christmas trees. Families gather for reunions, exchanging gifts and sharing meals, embracing the true spirit of togetherness that the season brings.
