Dibrugarh, Aug 6: Dibrugarh University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nanda Talukdar Foundation on Monday to preserve rare Assamese books and manuscripts
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the conservation and digitization of over 1,000 rare and ancient manuscripts housed in the Assamese Department of the university. Written on Sanchipat, these manuscripts feature Old Assamese, Sanskrit, Tai, and Bengali texts, covering diverse topics such as Vaishnavism, Buddhism, and ancient customs of Assam.
This extensive collection serves as a repository of knowledge, reflecting the region’s rich cultural and religious heritage. The MoU aims to digitize these manuscripts accurately and make them publicly accessible, enabling scholars and researchers worldwide to explore these invaluable resources.
This initiative represents the first large-scale effort to make rare Assamese manuscripts accessible to the public, ensuring their preservation for future generations. The MoU was signed by Dr. Paramananda Sonowal, Registrar of Dibrugarh University, and Mrinal Talukdar representing the Nanda Talukdar Foundation.
