Dilip Saikia to lead Assam BJP as new state president

Must read

Guwahati, Jan 16: Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia is poised to become the next president of the Assam BJP. Saikia was the sole candidate to file a nomination for the post on Thursday, with an official announcement of his appointment expected on Friday.

This development marks the end of Bhavesh Kalita’s tenure as state BJP president, a position he has held since 2021.

Dilip Saikia, a seasoned political leader from Assam, began his journey in 1986 with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He later joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), where he served in key roles such as State Secretary and State Organizing Secretary for nearly nine years.

In 2002, Saikia became a National Executive Member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and joined the State Media Cell. By 2006, he was appointed Convenor of the Social Media Cell for the Assam BJP. Currently, he serves as the BJP’s national general secretary.

Saikia has also been a two-term Member of Parliament, first representing Mangaldoi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and securing another victory in 2024 from the Darrang-Udalguri constituency.

Party workers believe that Saikia’s extensive grassroots experience and leadership within the BJP will strengthen the party’s organizational structure and strategic approach in Assam during his tenure.
