District Consumer Forum being instituted for South West Garo Hills

Ampati, Sept 17: Deputy Commisioner of South West Garo Hills, Ramakrishna Ch. Chitturi has informed that the District Consumer Forum is being instituted currently and in future, it will be convenient for consumers to register their grievances.

He said this during the Consumer Awareness Programme organised by the Office of the Deputy Commisioner (Supply), South West Garo Hills, Ampati On Friday at MFC Ampati whereby awareness on Aadhar enrollment and awareness on free distribution of LPG Gas Cylinder to beneficiaries of National Food Securities Act, 2013 was also conducted.He also stressed on Aadhar enrollment as it is linked to Public Distribution System (PDS) which will help beneficiaries to avail Government schemes without much complications.

New modalities for PDS dealers

Deputy Director of Supply, West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, Nemson M. Marak encouraged the dealers present at the event to use biometrics while distributing food and other supplies, failing which would automatically regard beneficiaries as silent or non existent.

He also announced that in future, dealers will have to apply for renewal of weighing machines on yearly basis and get it certified from Metrology Department.

Plastic rice

Addressing the rumours of plastic rice, Sainira S. Marak, Food Safety Inspector, Ampati, in her speech on Food Safety Act said that till today, such rice have not been found in the district, however, in most cases it was the case of food fortification even in other places where such rumours occured.

Checking of weights and weighing machines

Legal Metrology Inspector of Ampati, Saljrang G Momin who conducted awareness on Metrology Act, informed the dealers to bring their weights to their Office and get their weighing machines and weights checked and cautioned them of the liabilities and penalties against the usage of any such altered or manipulated devices.

Availing Ujjwala 2.0 scheme

SI Supply, Ampati, who is also the Nodal Officer of Ujjwala 2.0 Scheme, Sengman R. Marak clarified that in other states, distribution of free LPG connection is being carried out on first come first serve basis, but in Meghalaya, such system is not being followed.

However, he said that there is some criteria for identifying the deserving beneficiaries and the target to be achieved is 6000 households in the district.

Ranjit Robidas, Manager, M/s Mingsingdo Gas Agency, Ampati informed that forms to avail this scheme will be available in Bharat Gas, Mahendraganj and also M/s Mingsingdo Gas Agency, Ampati in the district.

He also informed that beneficiaries with AAY and PHH Card holders would require documents such as Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Bank Passbook and Passport photographs to submit along with the form.
