Tura, March 8: The 8th District Level Industrial Exhibition was organized by the
District Commerce & Industries Centre, South West Garo Hills, Ampati. The exhibition was inaugurated by Sanjay A Sangma, MLA 54 Mahendraganj Legislative Assembly and Chairman, Board of Directors Meghalaya Infratech and Innovations Corporation Ltd at Ampati Students’ Field, Ampati.
The inauguration programme was attended by Vikas Kumar, SP South West Garo Hills,
CRN Sangma, BDO, Betasing C&RD Block and Heads and Officers of various line departments.
The Exhibition showcased the products of the local artisans of the District as well as the products from other Districts of Garo Hills. 46 enterprises from various districts participated in the program.
During the inaugural function the General Manager , DCIC, Ampati N F R Marak highlighted on the purpose of organizing the Exhibition and various benefits through this platform. She added that the Exhibition includes many attractions apart from the local products like Audio Visual room to show the various motivational videos on Entrepreneurship, teamwork, success etc. The Exhibition also has a food court, Photo booth, mini fitness centre and live performance by Nokpante Productions featuring artist from MGMP(Meghalaya Grassroot Music Project).
Crystal R N Sangma, MCS & BDO Betasing C&RD Block, highlighted the role these industrial exhibitions play in promoting and exposing these rural artisans to newer markets, technologies and current market demands, she also talked about the importance of entrepreneurship as a career option.
Vikash Kumar, IPS, SP, South-West Garo Hills District talked about the regions potential for exports of handicrafts to outside markets both to mainland India and outside the country. He expressed the potential in export with the coming of the Dubhri- Phulbari bridge which can be accessed by the people of the District thereby bringing probable enhancements in the income and economy of the district.
Sanjay A Sangma, MLA, 54-Mahendraganj reminiscence how during their childhood days in their native village of Boldamgre and Ampati there were very few shops and less business and entrepreneurial avenues and opportunities and that, with the changing times, today he sees much more help both from the State Government and departments like the Commerce & Industries Department, who are working tirelessly towards the socio-economic empowerment of the people of the region. He also dwelled upon the importance of Border Haats at Kalaichar and Land Customs Station at Mahendraganj in bringing business opportunities to the people of this border district. He informed the people present that he has personally proposed an immigration station to be setup at Mahendraganj along with the Land Customs Station for easy transit of people through the international border. He encouraged and urged the artisans and the entrepreneurs present and participating in these exhibitions to improve upon their packaging and finishing of their products to further reach wider markets and appeal to wider potential consumers/ buyers, the products the artisans make has to be endearing he stated.
46 enterprises from various district of Garo Hills putting up stalls with a combined goods value of ₹14,79,000 and ₹1,44,100 in sales proceed on the first day itself.
