District – level Science Seminar on millets held in Williamnagar

Williamnagar, Aug 25: District School Education Office, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar, organized a District-Level Students’ Science Seminar on the topic ‘Millets: A Superfood or a Diet Fad’ on Friday at DRDA Hall No.2 in Williamnagar.

Most of the schools around Williamnagar took part in this seminar, where the Additional Deputy Commissioner and DTO in charge, Seldin N. Sangma, was present as the chief guest and District Agriculture Officer of East Garo Hills, N. Shadap, as the guest of honor. The principal of Educere Higher Secondary School and National Awardee Teacher, Gamchi Timre R. Marak, was the special guest on the occasion. The District School Education Officer, East Garo Hills, S.D. Marak, was also present at the seminar and delivered a welcome address to the gathering.

The seminar was chaired by the District Science Supervisor, Samuel K. Sangma. During the seminar, there was an interaction session where students asked questions regarding millets, which were answered by the district agriculture officer, N. Shadap.

Speaking on the occasion, the principal of Educere Higher Secondary School, Gamchi Timre R. Marak, discussed the health benefits of millets and encouraged the audience to revert to traditional cultivation methods for good health.

As the chief guest of this seminar, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and DTO in charge, Seldin N. Sangma, spoke about the importance of cultivating millets for food security in the current times. He also elaborated at length on the traditional methods of millet cultivation and storage, drawing from his own experiences as a millet grower and enthusiast during his time.

The seminar proved to be an enlightening platform, fostering insightful discussions and emphasizing the significance of millets in the context of nutrition, health, and sustainable agriculture.
