Must read

Shillong, Nov 5: Ahead of the upcoming Assembly Elections 2023, United Democratic Party (UDP) on Saturday got a major jolt with the former UDP working president, also the former MDC, Donkupar Sumer along with more than hundred supporters quitting the party at a public meeting in Umsning, Ri Bhoi District.

Donkupar Sumer was the Working President of the UDP, Ri Bhoi District. He along with his supporters and the leaders from Umsning Circle decided to quit the party alleging that they were compelled to take the step due to the arrogant attitude of the party leaders who have been disrespectful to the party leaders and the supporters.

Speaking on the occasion, Sumer and the leaders expressed grief and discontentment over the attitude of the party’s top leaders and also from the Ri Bhoi District unit, who neglected and did not respect the voice of the core leaders from Umsning and the supporters.

They also lambasted the top leaders for their alleged conspiracy to allot the ticket for the upcoming MLA elections to a newcomer who has recently joined the party instead of the one who has been serving and also won the MDC election from the party in 2013, who got the trust from the supporters and has been serving well in the constituency and the district.

However, Sumer announced that he will not be contesting the upcoming MLA elections, instead he will be contesting the MDC elections in 2024. He further said the disgruntled leaders will soon sit to discuss which party and candidate they will lend their support to.
