Nongpoh, Aug 7: Dozens of vehicles broke down on Tuesday night at Umran Dairy in Ri-Bhoi district, after filling up with petrol from a local Hindustan Petroleum outlet. The vehicles suddenly stopped working, leaving owners stranded.
The car mechanics called in to repair the vehicles claimed that the fuel was mixed with water, leading to the break down. This prompted the vehicle owners to demand compensation from the petrol pump.
Police from Umsning Police Station also rushed to the scene to investigate and prevent any further incidents.
The petrol pump owner denied mixing water in the petrol tank, but suspected that recent rainfall may have caused water to seep into the newly constructed tank.
In a bid to resolve the issue, the petrol pump owner has agreed to bear the expenses of repairing the damaged vehicles and signed a written agreement with the affected owners.
