Shillong, July 25: Former Minister and Garo Hills leader, Dr KC Boro, has sought justice from the Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, for the two minor girls sexually assaulted in Ampati, South West Garo Hills District, 3 months back.
The victims, both being minors, belong to the Koch community.
Accompanied by the members of the Meghalaya Koch Women Welfare Association (MKWWA), Dr KC Boro briefed the Governor on the heinous incident at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong on Wednesday, which occurred on April 16, 2024.
He demanded Rs. 10 lakh compensation for the victims and the maximum amount allowed under the Victim Compensation Scheme 2022.
The Governor attentively listened to their grievances and assured them of his support and commitment to justice for the victims.
In a compassionate gesture, the Governor announced an immediate financial assistance of 50,000 rupees from his discretionary grant to a victim. The meeting also addressed broader issues affecting the aggrieved communities of the region.
The Governor emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, particularly women and children, and reiterated the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
He assured Dr Boro and the delegation that the matter would be taken up with the relevant authorities for immediate action.
