Guwahati, April 24: South Salmara Mankachar police recovered 400 grams of Yaba tablets during a search operation in Kukurmara Pt II village of Assam’s Mankachar on Wednesday.
The contraband was found at the residence of Nur Kalam (32), a suspected drug peddler who managed to flee before the police arrived.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Dipak Bargayari and sub-inspectors Puja Hazarika and Nayanjyoti Gogoi conducted the raid. During the search, they seized 400 grams of Yaba tablets, packed in paper envelopes, with the paper itself weighing 6 grams.
“We have launched a sustained crackdown against drugs in the South Salmara-Mankachar district. So far, several peddlers have been arrested and large quantities of narcotics seized,” said a police official.
He added, “Our operations will continue until we rid the district of the drug menace.”
