Tura, Jan 24: One suspected Inter-state drug smuggler aged 32 years old from a nearby village of Rajabala, was apprehended yesterday morning, 22nd January, along with a bike, by the police Naka teams near Rajabala and huge quantity of 9263 no.s of YABA tablets ( Methamphetamine ) weighing 967.55 grams were recovered and seized from his possession.

Upon receipt of credible inputs by West Garo Hills ANTF( Anti Narcotics Task Force), that one inter-state drug smuggler gang is transporting contraband psychotropic substances across Meghalaya-Assam border through Phulbari- Rajabala-Hallidayganj Road, immediately a team was formed under lead by SDPO Dadenggre, comprising of IC Rajabala POP, IC Selsella, who immediately placed nakas at various junctions which netted the smuggler.
An FIR under appropriate sections of NDPS act have been registered and the accused arrested observing all necessary legal formalities.
Further efforts are being made to identify and nab the remaining members of the gang, said district police.
“West Garo Hills Police, appeals to all citizens to be aware of Drug Abuse menace, and to be attentive, to exercise precautions and join hands with Police to save the children and youth from falling victims to Drug Abuse, and also provide information about such possible drug smugglers and peddlers to prevent and control Drug menace in the Society,” appealed Dr M Raghavendra Kumar, Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills district.
