Earthquake of magnitude 4.2 jolts Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills, tremors felt in Shillong

Shillong: An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred on Sunday in the West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. The earthquake struck at around 7:53 pm at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors were also felt in Shillong and other parts of the state and also in Assam.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometres. No casualties or significant damage have been reported so far.

 

The earthquake jolts were also felt inside Hub News studio and the whole event was captured on camera while the anchor was recording her bulletin.

The earthquake jolt caused a minor panic among the staff and residents. However, experts have assured that the earthquake was relatively mild and not expected to cause any major aftershocks.
